The Plastic Armchairs designed by Charles and Ray Eames in the 1950s were presented for the first time as part of the “Low Cost Furniture Design” competition organised by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The shell with organic lines was originally made of fibreglass. Reissued by Vitra with a polypropylene shell, the Eames Plastic LAR (Lounge Height Armchair Rod Base) has a low steel wire base, which gives the chair good stability and lightness. Thanks to its compact dimensions and the wide range of colours available for the shell, the Plastic Chair LAR can be integrated into various styles and types of furnishings. Thanks to the organic shape of this classic armchair, LAR is a remarkable solitary piece of furniture but can also be combined with many types of sofas to form an attractive contrast.
